Have Your Kids Make Angels, Butterflies, and Lilies from Handprints

A hands-on way for children to remember during the Easter season that God's hand is at work in their lives

Make some handprint crafts with your children for Easter. The handprint butterfly and the handprint angel picture are super quick and fun crafts to make with your children at any age. The handprint Easter lily works better for a slightly older child.

Handprint Butterfly and Angel Pictures

Suggested for any age.

Supplies

ink or paint for handprints
construction paper
markers
adhesive
gold pipe cleaner

Butterfly Instructions

In the middle or upper portion of the page, make two sets of handprints for the wings of the butterfly (see Figure 1). Use thumb to make a series of thumbprints along the bottom of the page for a caterpillar. Have the children draw the butterfly’s body and face. Have them give the butterfly a smiling face. Have them draw a sad face on the caterpillar. Let them draw some grass and a sun. If the child is old enough, have them print the motto “Easter makes all the difference” on the picture.

Angel Instructions

Make a pair of handprints for the angel’s wings (See Figure 2). Have the children draw a face on the angel. Use some of the gold pipe cleaner to make a halo. Glue the halo above the angel’s face. Have the children draw an empty tomb. If the child is old enough, have him copy the motto “Do not be afraid...He is risen from the dead!”

Handprint Easter Lilies

Suggested for ages 5 and up (this craft can be done with younger children if they are assisted).

Supplies

white construction paper
marker
tape
yellow and green pipe cleaners
a pencil or marker to use for shaping the petals.

Instructions

Help the child to trace her handprint onto a piece of white paper.
Have the child cut her handprint out.
Shape the base of the handprint into a cone. Hold in place with a bit of tape.
Roll each finger around the pencil (rolling it out from the center of the cone) to give a curve to the petals.
Cut a short piece of yellow pipe cleaner, twist the end of the yellow pipe cleaner onto the end of a green pipe cleaner.
Shape the top of the yellow pipe cleaner into a curl (this will be the stamen of your flower).
Thread the green piper through the hole at the bottom of the cone so that it forms the stem of your Easter lily.

Ideas and Suggestions

The handprint butterfly and angel projects are very simple and straightforward. Because they use handprints, it is a nice project to do with very small children, if an adult is willing to complete the picture. It makes a lovely memory to look back at for many Easters to come.
The lilies are slightly more difficult but they are fun and it is remarkable how much like real lilies they look.
Make a whole bouquet of lilies to use as an Easter centerpiece.
